NSW Waratahs backrowers Jack Dempsey and Michael Wells got the chance to go back to the community that helped shape their careers when they joined the festivities at the Gordon Juniors Festival of Rugby.

Juniors from local clubs Chatswood, Hornsby, Roseville, Lane Cove, Wahroonga, St Ives, Lindfield and Killara West-Pymble came together at Gordon’s home ground, Chatswood Oval for a day of skills and drills sessions and fun.

Dempsey played his junior rugby at Lindfield and Chatswood, while Wells spent his time as a youngster in the Roseville set up.
On hand was NSW Rugby’s Sydney Metro Development Manager, Owain Roberts, who said the two NSW Waratahs players relished the chance to give back to the rugby community.

“We were thrilled to have Jack Dempsey and Michael Wells come along to have a run around with the kids, sign some autographs and have the chance to connect with the members of the rugby community, young and old,” Roberts said.

A number of juniors also used this chance to register for their local junior rugby club for the 2018 season and take advantage of NSW Rugby’s offer of giving a free NSW Waratahs season membership to every junior under the age of 16 who registers with a club this year.

The NSW State Government has also launched the Active Kids programme, which provides parents with a $100 voucher per child towards the sport of their choice.
