After two weeks on the road, the NSW Waratahs are back on the training paddock ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster double-header at Allianz Stadium.

In an historic day for rugby in NSW, the NSW Women will take on the Western Force women earlier in the afternoon.

The NSW Waratahs go into this weekend’s Vodafone Super Rugby on the back of a home win against the Stormers, a draw against the Sharks in Durban and a loss against the Jaguares in Buenos Aires.
For fullback Israel Folau, the loss in Argentina was a bitter pill to swallow.

“It’s obviously disappointing after the last couple of weeks but we are reviewing the footage and there are plenty of positives to take out of the games (against the Sharks and Jaguares),” Folau said.

“We made simple errors we know we can fix and we will work on those things as we get into the week, building up into the game. For us, we are still positive and we are excited about what’s to come.

The NSW Waratahs are a team that likes to play expansive rugby and Folau says that approach sometimes come at a cost.

“When you’re playing that type of rugby, you’re open to a bit of room for error which is OK for us – we don’t want to be playing conservative rugby. It just comes down to execution and good decision making under that pressure in game time.”

“Everyone’s in good shape at the moment. The coaching staff have done a great job in terms of looking after us with the training load. The guys are certainly feeling good and are in good shape and they (the coaching staff) will manage our week accordingly.”

Up for grabs on Sunday is the Weary Dunlop Shield, contested by the NSW Waratahs and the Melbourne Rebels each time the two teams meet.

As current holders, Folau says the stakes have never been higher.

“They (the Rebels) have been in great form, there’s no doubt about it. It makes things a lot more exciting for us as a team and it’s always exciting when you’re coming up against another Aussie side,” he said.

Sunday 18 March is also Ladies’ Day and to celebrate, we will be holding a special Ladies’ Day function. To join the occasion, head to this link right here.
