Finals fever in the country

NSW has been gripped by all things finals, and on Saturday it is the turn of Western Plains and the Far North Coast to put on a show.

In the Western Plains, Coonamble Rams will meet the Warren Pumas in this year’s first grade showpiece. Coonamble have come from bottom of the table in 2017 to minor premiers in 2018.

A few locals would attribute this to the coach Tom Cullen bringing back some of the Coonamble veterans who steered a lot of their success between 2010 and 2015.

Warren have been the unlucky bridesmaid three years running, suffering narrow losses every year but they are hoping to go one better this year.

Coach Stu Denson has suffered in the losses and is bringing all that experience and knowledge of the zone’s ultimate prize.

The results all year have been close between the two clubs and with Coonamble winning the major semi-final 21-20 are maybe slight favourites but anything can happen on Grand Final day in the Wild, Wild West.

In the Far North Coast, minor premiers Wollongbar Alstonville Pioneers will be aiming for their fifth consecutive Premiership when they meet the Lennox Head Trojans in this year's First grade Grand Final at Crozier Field, Lismore.

Third placed Lennox Head overcame second placed Ballina in last Saturday's Preliminary Final 28 to 19.

Wollongbar have been victorious in both encounters this season but never underestimate the Lennox Trojans.

In the reserve grade, Lennox Head take on Ballina Seahorses. Lennox got the better of Ballina in their last two encounters and Ballina won in the last minutes against the Mullumbimby Moonshiners in the Preliminary Final.

And in President's Cup the Yamba Buccaneers will be hoping to reverse last year's result when they meet the Evans River Killer Whales.
