Sevens action top the charts

By NSW Rugby Media

Silverware was on the cards when Maitland hosted some of the best emerging Sevens talent.

Seventeen clubs from across NSW competed in a round robin format, vying for the competition’s Shield, Plate and Cup on offer.

NSW Rugby Development Manager Michael Doyle hopes this competition becomes an annual event.

“We had a mix of city and country teams competing in an event, which I am sure will become an annual occasion that will build and go from strength to strength,” Doyle said.

The event was founded by the Hawthorne Academy, who work at promoting rugby in the Newcastle and Hunter regions of NSW, and who are striving to make this Under 20s tournament an annual event with an added women’s division.

Hawthorne Academy defeated Manly 22 – 7 in the grand final to be crowned champions and win their first piece of silverware in five years.

Hawthorne Academy’s Liam Dalibozek was named Player of the Tournament.
