NSW Waratahs Women have named 10 debutants as part of their side for the opening clash of the Buildcorp Super W, as they prepare to travel to Canberra to take on rivals the Brumbies.

As the defending champions, the NSW Waratahs Women recognise they’ll have a target on their back from their opponents and while the squad boasts a number of debutants they come packed with loads of experience.

NSW Waratahs Women’s Head Coach Matt Evrard, said the number of Wallaroos joining the squad will benefit the younger players coming through the ranks.

“It will be great experience for them (younger players). Before the last Super W season, we didn’t have a great deal of Wallaroos in our squad so to have up to 15 in the squad now, who have represented their country, is a real positive.

“It will be good to be able to share that load of leadership and a lot of young girls we’ve got coming through will be able to learn from their experience and push forward,” he said.

Although the NSW Waratahs Women head into the second year of the competition as the defending champions, Evrard said there are plenty of areas of improvement his squad can work on.

There’s no pre-conceived ideas about the girls, they know how much improvement as individuals and as a team they can actually get and that’s our biggest challenge at the moment.

“We want to make them better rugby players and get them playing better footy as a team, and that’s what they’re really determined to do,” he said.

The NSW Waratahs Women will take on the Brumbies side at GIO Stadium, Canberra at 5:00pm on Saturday 23 February.

All Buildcorp Super W matches will be streamed via streaming service Kayo, as well as made available on Rugby.com.au. Every double header fixture will also be available following their accompanying Super Rugby fixture on Fox Sports.
