71 - 0

By Oscar Nowak Allcorn, Oakhill Y8 Student & NSW Waratahs Junior Reporter

What a sensational day for playing rugby at St. Joseph's College - a typical Sydney sunny autumn day with perfect clear blue skies and temperature. With many Oakhill and Joey’s teams playing each other throughout the day, it was time for Oakhill’s First XV to play against Joey’s 2nd XV.

Oakhill wanted to go home today with their first win of the year. However, they had a hard game as they could not keep up with Joey’s intensity, losing a heartbreaker 71-0.

Joey’s played a better game from the get go, pushing Oakhill’s defence to the limits. Joey’s broke Oakhill’s line and scored five minutes in.

Shortly after, another try slipped through Oakhill. Joey’s Outside Center Rhys Downs scored - he ran by the sideline, too fast to catch.

Oakhill had many opportunities to score with many great plays throughout the game, but the Joey’s team was just one step ahead of them.

Oakhill’s Fullback Dylan Madden made some outstanding tackles, which even stopped Joey’s from scoring a few tries.

With half time approaching, both teams were looking for tries. Oakhill had a lineout 10 meters away from the halfway line. Oakhill overthrew the ball and Joey’s Inside Center picked the ball up and got tackled by his opposite number, Zachary Fitzhenry. A few phases later Joey’s passed the ball out wide and Outside Center Rhys Downs scored under the posts.

At half time the score was sitting on 36-0. Although Oakhill was determined not to repeat their last game’s 64-0 loss to Barker, Joey’s kept slipping through Oakhill’s backline scoring 4 tries in the second half. But Oakhill never gave up - with a few good plays and tackles by Oakhill, they made Joey’s gameplan hard.

Joey’s made another line break on the wing but Oakhill’s Fullback Dylan Madden made a try saving tackle five meters away from the try line. A few phases later Joey’s got over the try line, but were held up by Oakhill. Great effort from both teams.

Joey’s scored 11 tries with 8 of them being converted. Half Back Luca Antico and Inside Center Matt Ryan both contributed to the 8 conversions.
As the final siren went off Joey’s were very happy with the 71-0 win against Oakhill.
Both teams played really well but at the end of the day, there can only be one winner.

With this game being Oakhill’s 3rd loss of the year, the team is looking forward to improving before the ISA season starts.

Final score: 71-0 at St. Joseph's College
