Tautalatasi joins NSW Waratahs as injury cover

The NSW Waratahs have today announced the signing of Tautalatasi Tasi on an injury cover contract for the remainder of the Vodafone Super Rugby season.

The flying outside back has been rewarded for some strong performances for Gordon in the Shute Shield, coming into the squad following Karmichael Hunt’s recent knee injury.

A former South Sydney Rabbitoh, Tasi played with Souths in Queensland Premier Rugby competition, Brisbane City in the National Rugby Championship in 2018 as well as pre-season fixtures for the Melbourne Rebels.

NSW Waratahs Head Coach, Daryl Gibson welcomed the addition of Tasi to his squad for the run home.

“Tasi has been performing really strongly in the Shute Shield and this is a great opportunity for him to test himself in Super Rugby,” Gibson said.

“He’s an impressive athlete and a strong ball runner courtesy of his Rugby League background, we’re pleased to have him here at the Waratahs for the remainder of this season.

“It’s great to have such quality players to call on from our local clubs and it shows the pathway available to players across the Shute Shield – a competition we keep a close eye on.”

His signing is a great example of the pathway available to players in the Shute Shield, and we’ll be continuing to look at players performing well in that competition.”

Tasi said he was excited about the chance to join the NSW Waratahs.

“When they [NSW Waratahs] originally contacted me I jumped at the chance to be involved for the rest of the season,” Tasi said.

“I’m just wanting to take the opportunity with both hands and repay the faith Daryl and the team have shown in me.”

Tasi is set to be named on Daryl Gibson’s bench for this weekend’s clash with the Brumbies at Bankwest Stadium.
