Steve Johnson’s list of accolades just got longer

It's a numbers game for Volunteer of the Year (Senior) Steve Johnson.

Steve Johnson has been involved at Southern Districts Rugby Club for more than a decade.

Operating the scoreboard every week, Johnson is reliable and always happy to go over and above for others.

“I started volunteering in 1996 when my two sons joined Sylvania Junior Rugby Club,” Johnson said.

“Junior clubs are always looking for volunteers - coaches, managers, referees and committee members so it was only natural I put my hand up to help,” he said.

“Johnson was recognised for his tireless efforts at the NSW Rugby Awards Night where he was presented with the Volunteer of the Year (Senior) Award.

“I was very humbled to win this award, there are many great volunteers in the rugby community and to be the winner was amazing,” he said.

The recent award joins Johnson’s list of many rugby accolades, as he is an archivist for NSWRU and honorary statistician for the NSW Waratahs.

Johnson encouraged people to get involved at their local club in any way that they can.

“Every club needs volunteers to survive. You will meet many interesting people along the way and the experience is enjoyable. You won’t regret it!” he said.
