Randwick rebound with bonus point win

Randwick scored 30 unanswered points to record a 20-point victory over Northern Suburbs in round seven’s ABC TV Game of the Day at North Sydney Oval.

Eastwood remain undefeated and in possession of the Sir Roden Cutler Shield after accounting for Gordon while Manly survived a scare at Penrith.
West Harbour recorded a bonus point win over Warringah however a second half comeback earned a bonus point and a shift from the bottom of the table.
Daniel Halangahu starred in Uni’s big win over Souths and six second half tries took Easts past Parramatta.

Northern Suburbs v Randwick at North Sydney Oval
Randwick has rebounded from last week’s home loss to Penrith with a bonus point victory over Northern Suburbs at North Sydney Oval.
Norths scored the opening two tries of the match however Randwick half Luke Parsons crossed for a double, the second in the shadows of half-time, with better goal-kicking giving the visitors an eight-point lead at the break.
Brumbies flyer Francis Fainifo scored Randwick’s third try and midway through the second half the Wicks were mounting sustained pressure when Paulie Tuala was shown a yellow card.
Soon after Nio Halangahu scored from a rolling maul with Toby Browne’s conversion completing 30 unanswered points in a match-winning effort from the visitors.

West Harbour v Warringah at Concord Oval
West Harbour are now within striking distance of the top six following their 38-27 victory over Warringah at Concord Oval.
The Pirates held a 26-13 lead at the break before a determined Warringah side hit back in the second half to trail by just four points coming down the stretch.
However a sixth try to the home team confirmed the bonus point win, just their second victory of the year.
Henry Seavula scored a hat-trick for Wests while Shaun Treweek added 13 points from a try and four conversions. Dylan Smouha scored a double for the visitors with the Rats’ four tries earning a bonus point and lifting them off the bottom of the table.

Penrith v Manly at Nepean Rugby Park
Penrith proved Nepean Rugby Park would again be one of the toughest venues to travel to this season with Manly forced to fight hard for a 30-21 result.
The visitors led 17-7 at the break, however each side ran in two tries in the second half to keep the match in the balance.
The Marlins scored five tries to three but starkly different days with the boot from Ben Seymour and Tawhiri Walsh kept the match close. Kotoni Ale ran in a double for the visitors while Atelea Okati scored two tries of his own.

Southern Districts v Sydney University
HSBC Waratahs flyhalf Daniel Halangahu inspired Sydney University to their best performance of the year in a 37-12 victory over Southern Districts.
The Students trailed by a point at the break but ran in 31 points to five in the second half to move into the top six.
Sam Carter scored two of Uni’s four tries while Halangahu had a memorable day with the boot kicking four conversions and three penalties for a 17-point haul.
The result sees Souths drop to seventh, one point outside the top six.

Eastern Suburbs v Parramatta at Woollahra Oval
Parramatta put up a good fight in the first half but could not stay with a rampant Eastern Suburbs side which scored an impressive 57-22 victory at Woollahra Oval.
The Two Blues were just two points adrift at the break, however the home side ran in six tries to one in the second half to blow out the scoreline.
Wing Ratu Ma’afu scored a hat trick and Ed Stubbs collected a double for Easts while skipper Andrew Cox scored two of Parramatta’s three tries.

Eastwood v Gordon at T.G. Millner Field
Eastwood has survived a second half comeback by Gordon to record a 27-24 victory at T.G. Millner Field and successfully defend the Sir Roden Cutler Shield.
Mark Frost scored two of Eastwood’s four tries which earned the home side its fifth bonus point win from seven starts this season.
The undefeated competition leaders led 14-3 at the break, and though a second half double by Dion Berryman helped bring the Highlanders within range they were left with just a bonus point from the match.
The fixture was marred by a neck injury to Eastwood backrower Pat Shanahan which stopped the match for around seven minutes, however there were positive signs before he was transferred to hospital by ambulance.
