Wallaby prop Sekope Kepu will stay with the HSBC Waratahs for two more years, it was announced today.

After celebrating his 50th appearance for NSW against the Brumbies earlier this month, Kepu has re-signed with Waratahs Rugby and will stay in Sydney until the end of the 2015 season.

Now in his sixth year with the HSBC Waratahs, the 27-year-old father of three says his belief in the special times ahead clinched his decision.

“I’ve debuted and progressed with this club and I want to stay on and try to accomplish all the things that I first wanted to do here. The organisation is building something special. I guess I want to be around to be part of that,” he said.

“The Waratahs gave me my first opportunity. It’s the reason I came over, it’s something I love,” said Kepu, who was born in Sydney but raised in Auckland.

Since making his Super Rugby debut for the HSBC Waratahs against the Highlanders in 2008, Kepu made his international debut against Italy in 2008 and has since appeared in 23 Tests including six of Australia’s seven Tests at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Given his experience and ability to play on both sides of the front-row, the powerful prop is a valuable asset to the HSBC Waratahs and Australian Rugby. Following the birth of his son Isaiah just last week, Kepu is pleased to have secured his future in Sydney, where his wife and young family (four-year-old Faith-Rose and one-year-old Israel) are happy and settled.

“The last few months have been challenging, but in a good way.  I’ve just recently had a little one, so it’s all happened pretty quickly.

“Now I’ve got all those things signed off, I can focus on my rugby and my family.”
