Affectionately known as ‘Sticks’, Palmer first started playing junior rugby for the Hamilton Hawks in New South Wales’ Newcastle/Hunter region. After a stint at St. Joseph’s College, Palmer became an integral part of the Northern Suburbs club rugby setup. With a total of 55 caps for the club, Palmer played a big role in the team’s Shute Shield premiership victory over the Students at North Sydney Oval in 2016. Palmer parted ways with Norths for a short time, looking to sharpen his lock traits in the Mitre 10 Cup competition in New Zealand with the Hawke’s Bay Magpies. Across the ditch, Palmer notched up a total of 89 caps for the provincial side.
Sticks returns to his home state for the 2018 season to add to the young lock stocks to play alongside the likes of Ryan McCauley and the incoming Rob Simmons. Palmer made his debut for his home State in the NSW Waratahs' season opener against the Stomers at Allianz Stadium in 2018.
